How did you attract / address your audience

What appealed to our audiences

To find out what our audiences found appealing we as a group decided to research different genres and then see which genre is most popular, in addition to the genre research we also created a questionnaire in order to gain more feedback from our target audience.

Based on survey that has been posted on social networking sites such as Facebook we were able to gain some information in to how our film will be designed. There was a couple of questions on the survey which allowed us to mould the 2 minute film opening to be more appealing to the audience.

These were some of the people that Sana Ash had surveyed for the purpose of our opening scenes. Theses were some of the questions we had asked the audience, we had implemented the feedback into our film opening which appealed to the majority of people that had been surveyed as we included the main points that was raised by them.

Was the Audience Satisfied?

I think the audience enjoyed the two minute opening for our film as it contained the cliff hanger situations and also included a twist in the plot which will keep the audience at the edge of their seat. This was the result we were hoping for with our opening for the film.

We could improve on some of he questions that had been asked in the survey as they were very generalised which meant it took us longer to process the survey and make any sort of decisions.

Who would be the audience for your media product?


Our target audience will be those who are interested in the suspense of thriller movies and the excitement of horror films. The audience who enjoy being involved in the movie will be targeted by our film as it allows the audience to guess and interpret their own story before it all unfolds slowly. The reason for this combination of genres allowed us to get a wider range of people who enjoy the two genres. Furthermore these genre seem to complements each other and therefore it has similar characteristics as some horror and thriller films combined.

How does your media product represent particular social groups

We have four main characters within our two minute opening scene, one of those characters is the victim and is played by Iram Arbi another character is the killer and then there is the two detectives who are trying to solve this murder.
The killer has a negative representation as he is wearing all black and does not fully show his face, these characteristics show that he is a mysterious character and has been waiting for the victim to pass by. The detectives are the positive representation as they are the people who are trying to catch the killer and therefore are the opposite of the killer.

We have used a typical stereotype with the killer, a hooded stranger, most killers like to retain their identity so that they do not get caught.

Our detectives also have to typical stereotype of being dressed in smart wear and have and office block where they carry out the investigation. Above is a scene where the detective is at a desk, by doing this we are following the stereotype that many people expect when they are watchiinf films like this.

Head Teachers Office...

after we had done the practice run for the office scene we then decided to gain permission so that we were allowed to use the best office in school, which is the head teachers office... we had a limited time to do the shots so we got cracking on the camera angles and shots that we practised before. below is a couple of images of us doing the office scene.

Cold Outside.!

so after we have found the place for our filming we had decided to start as soon as possible. so we started on the on the first scene were Iram gets Kidnapped by the Killer. this scene was outside and it passed through a subway which is where Ruhan the Killer grabs the victim. and yes it was very cold!!!!!

Action Man!...

our group had a serious meeting which involved us sorting out what task we had to do before the next week, this is so that we don't get confused in future, so when it comes to the final thing we are prepared and able to make the best two minute trailer that even Steven Speilberg will be proud of.

Office scene take one!

we had to look for a office like room for us to film the office scene where Me and Sana have a conversation as the Detectives. so we scouted around in school and had found a room which was suitable for us filming the scene.

below are images of us sorting out the various camera angles that had to be done in order to gain the best shot possible.

we had decided to do a practice run before we filmed the official one so that we were able to see what angles will be best suited for this scene and what dialogue will be more suited for this scene as well

Our Synopsis...What its going to be like...

Hmmmm....Logos...

so this is a draft of what could be a future logo for our productions. Im still working on it!... but the main reason behind this idea is that its half a mask which suggests that most of our films from this production will be very psychological as the audience will uncover the truth or motive gradually during the films. hence the other part of the mask is covered. this production will mainly do like thriller films but with a twist such as cliffhanger endings etc.

I couldn't find a good opening scene to the I, robot but I analysed a scene which lasted 2 minutes. the scenes contains similar things that we will need to do in the preliminary  exercise.

So now that i have described the genre I was then thinking which film production looks good on the big screen and what genres they mostly do. i chose Warner Brothers, because I think they are the kings of film production!... instead of writing tonnes and tonnes on the blog I decided to make it into a PDF slideshow to present you with the information that i researched for the Film Production.

The Beginning...

So this is where its all going to start but for any of us to even start thinking about what we are going to to for the 2 minute opening we going to have to decide what type of genre to follow. So...instead of arguing about which one to do we all decided to pick a genre and research it and pick one that has everyone favours..simple really.

I picked thriller and below is the definition of the actual genre.

A classic standalone thriller is a film that provides the viewer thrills and keeps the audience at a cliff – hanging situation. Thriller as it unfolds…The tension usually arises when the character is placed in a menacing situation, a mystery, or a trap from which escaping seems impossible. Life is threatened, usually because the principal character is unsuspectingly or unknowingly involved in a dangerous situation 

Thriller is a genre that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements, there are many different subgenres but the main ones are mystery, crime and psychological thrillers. Most thrillers will keep important information hidden until the very end and will distract the viewer by having chases or fight scenes, although each subgenre has their own characteristic and method the most common methods for crime thrillers are mainly ransoms, kidnappings and revenge. Whereas mystery thrillers have more investigations. But psychological thrillers are more based on mind games, stalking and obsessions.
